with the rise of artificial intelligence, many are worried that this new technology will greatly impact their future career. among my peers as a computer science student, this concept seems to be especially prevalent. however, if we take a step back it is apparent that artificial intelligence should not be seen as a threat to most, but rather a tool.
before i started to learn how to program (or learn computer science for that manner), i found it important to first "brainstorm" why i felt it is important to learn in todays society, and where it fits in. so, in a world where technologies such as wordpress, or even wix exist, what is the importance of learning how to program? well, it is quite simple: there must always be a developer behind those products and in our case, artificial intelligence requires absolutely the same.
so, why are people scared? a majority are scared because they are unaware of a simple fact within the rapidly evolving technology sector: the technologies that we utilize on a day-to-day basis are constantly changing, improving, and being phased out. for example, internet connections originally utilized dial-up to decode audio signals into data. as technologies such as dsl, cable, and fiber showed up, engineers that previously worked with dial-up must learn these new technologies, or else be left behind.
similar to dial-up, the programming scene is rather the same. a programmer that utilized languages such as PASCAL, and have not bothered to stay up-to-date by learning newer, more modern languages such as Java or Python, will find it rather difficult to land a job in todays market. thus, if you would like to stay within computer science field, it is important to be competitive, and always be willing (as well as ready) to adapt and utilize new technologies such as artificial intelligence.
