if you’ve read my other posts, you’d know that slightly over a month ago my phone had broke. for a couple weeks, i had no phone and was forced to actually look around and enjoy life. i did have a tablet, but due to it not being extremely portable, it did not follow me around much. however, once i got a new phone, the whole world was back in my fingertips again.

with having the digital world so accessible once again, i found my screen time creeping up, and productivity sinking. now, this could easily be attributed towards my own behavior and lack of self control. and it totally was. however, my screen time never exceeded 5 hours per day, and compared to many others, this was extremely low! so i decided to make a change in my life.

why do we have social media?

well, i’ll tell you why i had it. simply, if i was bored, tired, or lonely i would just scroll through some reels. harmless, but you get caught in a loop, and can’t stop! or additionally, if i wanted attention.. what better way than post something online! these attention seeking behaviors disturbed me, and this wasn’t the person that i believed i was.

how deleting social media has benefited me

well, for a start i am able to put my time towards much more valuable things, rather than scrolling through worthless videos all day long. but besides that, deleting social media has allowed me to not only connect with others in real life more, but allowed me to be happier alone by myself. once i re-learned how to make myself happy, without the attention of others, my life improved itself tenfold. i can easily spend hours a day dedicated towards studying, or other beneficial tasks, without the need for a dopamine hit that we all have normalized.

will i reconsider social media in the future?

my answer is, for sure. social media definitely has many benefits to it, but downsides as well. i would not tell others to delete social media, but maybe just give it a try. maybe once im at a point in life where i have much more free time to kill, and am more successful, i will reconsider. but for now, it is best that i focus on improving myself, and directing as much time that i have to such. remember, we only have so much time in our lives!
